Learn How to Upload Files to Google Drive through Gmail
Need to send a large file through Gmail? Google Drive can help you quickly and easily send the files you need without having to condense your data or send multiple emails. Whether you’re new to Gmail or just getting started with Drive, it’s important to understand how to upload files to Drive through your Gmail account.
How to Upload Files to Google Drive through Gmail
Uploading files to Drive is easy, and you can do it right from your inbox. Here’s how it works:
- Log into Gmail and click Compose.
- Click “Insert File Using Drive” at the bottom of the message window.
A new window should pop up that will give you the option of inserting files you’ve already uploaded to Drive. Since we’re looking to upload files, click the Upload tab. Now, you can drag the file to the window, or click Select Files From Your Computer.
Once you upload the file, you have the option to insert it into an email as a Drive Link or as an attachment. At this point, you can go ahead and actually insert the file into the message, or you can simply leave it in Google Drive if you were only looking for a convenient way to upload files.
It’s important to keep in mind that even with Drive, there are file size limitations. When sending emails, you can insert up to 10GB of Drive files. The maximum file size for Gmail’s regular attachments is just 25MB. If you pay for extra storage, you can send up to 1TB worth of files through Gmail using Drive.
Whether you’re collaborating on a project or sharing plans for a birthday party, sending Drive files through Gmail will allow all recipients to see any comments or edits in real-time. Each time you send a message with a Drive attachment, Gmail will check to make sure all recipients have permission to view the file. If they don’t, you will be prompted to change the share settings without ever having to leave the email.
