Technically speaking, IMAP allows the users to access a mail server over a TCP/IP connection. And in simple words, we can say that IMAP allows us to access our emails over any internet device and emailing service. For example, there is a popular third-party application named Outlook that many people use. If you want to read your Gmail emails in Outlook, you will need to configure your Gmail IMAP settings.
This might sound strange for a few users because as they use Gmail on different devices, they don’t feel the need to perform any setting operations. Nowadays, most of the devices and emailing services support Gmail email service by default. But there are a few exceptions and you must know how to configure Gmail IMAP settings in cases where Gmail is not supported by an application or a device.

As mentioned earlier, most of the third-party email services are pre-set to work with Gmail so you don’t have to worry much about Gmail IMAP settings there. However, in a situation where Gmail is not auto-configured with your email client, you can configure it yourself without much hassle. Here are the steps you need to follow in order to configure your email client to manage your Gmail emails.
