In April 2018, Gmail rolled out its biggest update in years. We witnessed a lot of upgrades, improvements, and additions. One of the most prominent additions was the Gmail side panel that appeared at the right sidebar in Gmail. Gmail side panel was very well received by Gmail users because it made easier for the users to access their most-used apps with a single click and work on them without leaving their Gmail. Now we are hearing some good news about this Gmail side panel.
Google is extending this useful sidebar to other G Suite apps as well. This means that the users working on other apps such as Google Docs, and Google Calendar will have a side panel too, and the users will not have to leave these apps to access any other app; just like they can do on Gmail.
Multitasking Made Easy
The work ethic is today is all about multitasking and coordination, and Google knows how to help users achieve their work goals. That is the reasons why Gmail users loved the idea of the Gmail sidebar. It really helps in improving the efficiency of work.
When Google first announced the Gmail side panel, it mentioned that it will expand this panel to other apps in the coming months. And it really kept its promise and recently announced that it was rolling out the side panels for other G Suite apps as well.
Not Just Keep, Tasks, and Calendar
The Gmail Side panel has a few apps added to it by default. These apps include Google Calendar, Google Tasks, and Google Keep. But a user is not only limited to have these three apps on his Gmail side panel. He can easily add more apps and customize the side panel completely according to his preferences and requirements. Customizing the Gmail Side panel is simple; you can see a small plus sign at the bottom of the current apps; click on that sign and a pop-up window will appear with a list of the most popular apps. You can add your favorite apps from here.
Another cool thing about this side panel is that you can add third-party apps in addition to the GSuite apps. This means that you can use a third-party app while staying in your Gmail Inbox.
How to Hide Gmail Side panel?
While most of the Gmail users love the newly added side panel, some of them hate it to the core. The reasons are many; some hate it because it takes quite some space and the whole inbox looks messy. Others are distracted by the different G Suite apps present in the side panel and they cannot concentrate on their work.
For such users, there is good news. They can hide their side panel with a single click. To hide your Gmail side panel, open your Gmail and go to the right side panel. At the bottom of the panel, you will see a small arrowhead, when you hover your mouse over it, it will display a text that reads ‘Hide side panel’. You can click it to hide the side panel.
